Mary and the Repair of a Male-Centred Order

I have begun to wonder whether the story of Mary functions less as a liberation of women, and more as a repair of a theological order that never fully trusted them. Christian tradition often presents her as the answer to Eve, the figure through whom disorder is undone and harmony restored. But the narrative anxiety surrounding women’s bodies, voices, and proximity to divine action runs much deeper than any single figure can resolve. It is embedded in millennia of theology and resistant to easy resolution.
